Crux started as a bouldering room in a RiNo warehouse and a stubborn idea: a gym where your first climb and your hardest project matter equally.

Since 2016

22,000 sq ft

9 setters

3 youth teams

From one room
to 22,000 sq ft.

In 2016 Kai Thompson and a few friends signed a lease on an empty machine shop on Larimer Street, built twelve bouldering walls by hand and opened the doors with a folding table for a front desk.

The neighborhood showed up. Today Crux is 22,000 square feet of boulders and 45-foot rope walls, a youth program with three teams and a setting crew of nine, and we still reset every Monday.

“The V0 circuit gets the same
care as the comp wall.”

Kai Thompson, co-founder

Four things we won’t skip.

Every level belongs

The V0 circuit gets the same care as the comp wall. Nobody should feel like a guest in their own gym.

Setting is a craft

Nine setters, weekly resets and honest grades. We test every problem before it gets a tag.

Safety without fuss

Clear orientations, daily gear checks and staff who speak up kindly when something looks off.

Good neighbors

Film night proceeds fund Front Range crag cleanups, and our lot is open to the block on weekends.

Your first orientation
is on us.

The best way to know a gym is to climb in it. Save a slot and a coach meets you at the front desk.
