What you’ll
learn.
Lead climbing means taking the rope up with you and clipping it into quickdraws as you climb. It opens up every rope route in the gym and most climbing outside, and it needs careful teaching.
The three sessions
Session 1: Clipping, rope position and back-clipping
Session 2: Lead belaying and giving a soft catch
Session 3: Practice falls from both sides of the rope
Before you sign up
You need a current top rope tag and should climb 5.10 comfortably on top rope. The lead test is included; a retest costs $25.
